Vasomedical to Launch Lumenair EECP Therapy System at American Heart Association Scientific Sessions; New Treatment Option for Angina and Heart Failure Patients

Vasomedical, Inc. (Nasdaq SC:VASO), a leader in the non-invasive treatment and outpatient management of cardiovascular diseases, today announced that it will launch its newest enhanced external counterpulsation therapy system at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions next week in New Orleans. Vasomedical will demonstrate the use, features and benefits of the Lumenair(TM) System at AHA Booth #909.
The Lumenair(TM) EECP(R) Therapy System is the latest in Vasomedical's line of devices for the treatment of patients with advanced heart disease, including angina and heart failure. The Lumenair(TM) EECP(R) Therapy System incorporates a modern ergonomic design that improves patient comfort, enhances patient monitoring, increases ease-of-use by medical personnel, standardizes cuff pressures and reduces space requirements.
"We are extremely proud to offer what we believe to be the world's most advanced enhanced external counterpulsation system," said Vasomedical President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Glover. "Our company's mission is to help those patients who suffer unnecessarily from symptoms associated with angina and heart failure to participate more fully in life's daily activities. Lumenair's all-in-one design is the latest example of our commitment to heart patients and physicians worldwide. It provides many of the features that cardiologists have requested, such as more comfort for the patient and a need for reduced floor space, while maintaining the elements that assure optimal delivery of our EECP(R) therapy."
Data from clinical studies and patient registries confirm that approximately 80 percent of patients who complete EECP(R) therapy experience significant relief from chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) symptoms, including reduction or elimination of angina, reduced need for medication, increased functional capacity and improved quality of life. Published data, most recently in the August 2004 issue of Clinical Cardiology, show that the benefit of EECP(R) therapy is durable and can persist for up to five years. For patients who are good candidates for the treatment, EECP(R) therapy is considered a high benefit and low cost option.
EECP(R) external counterpulsation treatment is typically given in 35 one-hour-sessions over seven weeks. The Lumenair(TM) EECP(R) Therapy System is an integrated, all-in-one design comprised of an air compressor, a computer, a pressure cuff set tailored to the patient's size and an ergonomically designed treatment table. Patients lie down on the padded table and their calves and lower and upper thighs are wrapped in the cuff set. The system, which is synchronized to the individual patient's cardiac cycle, inflates the cuffs with air to create external pressure when the heart is resting (diastole) and deflates the cuffs just before the heart beats (systole). The system's action, which pulses counter to the heart's beating, increases blood flow to the heart muscle and decreases the heart's workload, creating a greater oxygen supply for the heart muscle while lowering the heart's need for oxygen.
More than 80 articles published in leading medical journals document significant benefits to patients suffering from angina and congestive heart failure, including improvements in exercise capacity, peak oxygen consumption and quality of life.
About Vasomedical
Vasomedical, Inc. is primarily engaged in designing, manufacturing, marketing and supporting EECP(R) external counterpulsation systems based on the Company's proprietary technology. EECP(R) therapy is a non-invasive, outpatient therapy for the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system currently indicated for use in cases of angina, congestive heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and acute myocardial infarction. The therapy serves to increase circulation in areas of the heart with less than adequate blood supply and may restore systemic vascular function. The Company provides hospitals, clinics and private practices with EECP(R) equipment, treatment guidance and a staff training and maintenance program designed to provide optimal patient outcomes. EECP(R) is a registered trademark for Vasomedical's enhanced external counterpulsation systems. Additional information is available on the Company's website at www.vasomedical.com.
