Conventional Medical Screening Leaves Millions at Risk, Doctor Says

LOS GATOS, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- "Most doctors can only dream of practicing medicine the way I do," says Dr. Mike Nichols, founder of TempusClinic, Los Gatos, Calif. "The healthcare system just doesn't permit it. As a result, millions of Americans are at risk of steadily deteriorating health and sudden death from easily reversible diseases such as coronary- artery, type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis, simply because those diseases are not detected early and properly treated before drugs and surgeries are required."
A 1999 Center for Disease Control study* reported that dropping dead was the first warning sign of a heart problem for 63 percent of heart-attack victims. Dr. Mike combined this statistic with the realization that replacing hips and amputating the legs for patients past the point of no return was not the most timely application of a healer's talents. After practicing orthopedic surgery and concierge medicine for 20 years following his Stanford residency, he decided to find a better way to serve patients. In 1999, Dr. Mike began pioneering an approach to healthcare based on promising Advanced Early Detection Diagnostics(TM) (AEDD).
"The life-saving power of early detection is incontrovertible," says Dr. Mike. "A well-known example is colon cancer. In 2005, deaths attributable to colon cancer declined for the first time in history. Colonoscopies used to detect early-stage cancer constitute the entire explanation. Another early- detection success is lung cancer. Prior to 2005, there was no decline in lung- cancer death rates despite all the advances in medicine over the previous 40 years. However, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on October 26, 2006, documented that early-detection screening for lung cancer resulted in 92 percent of patients being disease-free after 10 years, as opposed to zero percent even remaining alive after five years for conventional screening."
According to Dr. Mike, these positive facts about the value of early detection, supplemented with the positive outcomes documented by the applied clinic research he has conducted on treatment protocols for his patients over the last 10 years, can point the way to a new approach to healthcare in the US. "The combination of early detection, science-based treatments and intense patient monitoring with sophisticated tools and techniques is the key to a healthy middle and old age. Moreover, savvy patients want to achieve and maintain good health without resorting to pharmaceuticals, surgery or supplements. Using our approach, many patients have reversed type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, coronary-artery, fatty-liver, hypertension, chronic-fatigue and other diseases, as well as overcome obesity and a host of other conditions, such as unhealthy levels of testosterone, cholesterol, cortisol and more," he says.
"To really point the healthcare debate in a positive direction, we should focus on improving the practice of diagnosing preconditions and early-stage diseases," says Dr. Mike. "This is when natural treatments are most effective and outcomes can be significantly improved. Testing with advanced technology can diagnose many life-threatening diseases, but generally medical insurance does not pay for these new, advanced tests. But in our experience, these tests make an enormous difference. For example, we have diagnosed existing, life- threatening diseases in more than six percent of our new clients, most of whom have had comprehensive physicals from other medical clinics. This direct experience with my own patients convinces me that we need a new paradigm for practicing medicine, not merely a debate about re-arranging the payers of conventional healthcare," says Dr. Mike.
Founded in 2002 by Dr. Mike Nichols, TempusClinic is today the leader in applying Advanced Early Detection Diagnostics(TM) to detect and treat chronic diseases in middle and older-aged clients. In 2006, TempusClinic acquired the Los Gatos Health Club for the purpose of expanding access to emerging knowledge through community-based healthcare. The goal: establish a new paradigm for practicing medicine in a way that keeps people measurably healthy. Website: http://www.tempusclinic.com/
