QualityMetric Forms Office of Grants and Scholarly Research to Support Use of Patient-Reported Health Outcomes Surveys By the Academic/Research Community

LINCOLN, R.I., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- QualityMetric Incorporated, founded by the developer of the SF-36(R) Health Survey and other leading generic and disease-specific patient-reported health outcomes surveys, today announced formation of an Office of Grants and Scholarly Research (OGSR) to distribute health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measurement tools for scholarly research. The OGSR will:
-- Continue to offer royalty-free permission to use all of the SF(TM)
health outcomes surveys and new online DYNHA(R) software for scholarly
research (Note: Administrative fees may apply)
-- Encourage the publication of information about these health outcomes
surveys in scientific literature, with focus on disease-specific and
computerized dynamic (DYHNA(TM)) surveys
-- Facilitate strategic partnerships/collaborations among clinical
thought leaders to advance the development and application of outcomes
surveys in all areas of health care
The formation of the OGSR follows a July 2004 QualityMetric announcement offering royalty-free access to DYNHA(R) generic and disease-specific computer adaptive health assessments for purposes of scholarly research. According to QualityMetric Chief Executive Officer and Chief Science Officer, John E. Ware, Jr., Ph.D., "Over 125 researchers and academics responded to our DYNHA(R) royalty-free program within a week of the announcement and the number of applicants has grown significantly since then. The market demand for royalty- free access to scientifically valid PRO measurement tools by the academic research community is clear and we wanted to respond with a structure and support system to foster that."
Over 7,500 articles have been published to date in medical and scientific journals worldwide citing use of the SF(TM) Generic Health Surveys (SF-36(R), SF-36v2(TM), SF-12(R), SF-12v2(TM), SF-8(TM) Health Surveys). Titles and abstracts of these articles are available by therapeutic area in an SF Bibliography, offering enormous clinical value to those considering application of SF measurement tools. "We expect that the content scope of the SF Bibliography will grow to include our newer measurement tools in asthma and other disease areas, as well as our DYHNA(R) surveys which offer faster, smarter health status measurement," added Ware.
The OGSR will serve as a liaison with worldwide members of the http://www.sf-36.org/ "community"; SF(TM) grant/permission holders; clinical thought leaders; professors and students from universities, teaching hospitals; government agencies; and new research applicants that contact the Office on a daily basis.
