St. Vincent’s Health System Further Expands Their Reach into the Birmingham Community

Medical Center East, previously a part of the Eastern Health System, has joined St. Vincent’s Health System and is officially renamed St. Vincent’s East.

St. Vincent’s East offers premier programs in Primary Care, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Cardiovascular Services, Cancer Treatment and Emergency Services. In addition, the hospital has comprehensive programs in Diabetes, Endoscopy, Continence, Same Day Surgery, Digestive Disorders, Sleep Disorders and Surgical Weight Loss.

“St. Vincent’s East is pleased and excited to be part of the St. Vincent’s family,” said St. Vincent’s East President and Chief Operating Officer Todd Kennedy. “We feel this will enable us to better serve the families of Birmingham and the surrounding counties.”

Two other hospitals in the Central Alabama area will be joining the St. Vincent’s Health system. These include and St. Vincent’s St. Clair, formerly St. Clair Regional Hospital and St. Vincent’s Blount, formerly Medical Center Blount. Additionally, St. Vincent’s Hospital will now be named St. Vincent’s Birmingham and One Nineteen Health and Wellness will maintain its current name.

“As a system that is now five facilities strong, we have the wonderful opportunity to make an even greater impact on the health of our community and to extend and strengthen our mission, across Central Alabama,” said Curtis James, President and CEO of the St. Vincent’s Health System.

As of July 2nd, the newly formed health system encompasses approximately 5,000 associates, 742 beds, 171 medical specialties, and five facilities.

St. Vincent’s Health System is comprised of St. Vincent’s Birmingham, St. Vincent’s East, St. Vincent’s Blount, St. Vincent’s St. Clair and One Nineteen Health and Wellness. Together, they are dedicated to spiritually-centered, holistic care that sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities.
