Valley Medical Center Improves Healthcare With GetWellNetwork PatientLife System, Engaging Patients and Families, Automating Service Delivery, and Supporting Nurses

Posted on: Monday, 23 July 2007, 12:12 CDT

BETHESDA, Md., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- GetWellNetwork, Inc., a leading provider of Interactive Patient Care solutions, today announced that Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington has selected the GetWellNetwork(R) PatientLife System(R) as part of the hospital's strategic plan to further engage patients and families in their care experience. The system is expected to launch in October 2007.

The 240-bed facility serves more than 400,000 residents and is the first hospital in the Pacific Northwest to provide the innovative solution to its patients and families. Valley Medical Center is the state's first public district hospital and is the largest nonprofit healthcare provider between Seattle and Tacoma.

Valley Medical Center partnered with GetWellNetwork to improve patient discharge planning and education, enhance patient satisfaction and safety, as well as increase nursing efficiency. In addition, the hospital is working with GetWellNetwork to create an Interactive Care Plan(TM) for total joint replacement patients. An Interactive Care Plan provides patients with a virtual guide throughout a hospital stay, engaging them in the appropriate education and assessment stages throughout their stay that optimally prepare them for discharge.

"Valley Medical Center is committed to improving our ability to provide our patients and families with the highest quality hospital experience," said Rich Roodman, CEO of Valley Medical Center. "Valley Medical Center conducted a thorough review of the emerging Interactive Patient Care industry and we are equally impressed by the GetWellNetwork solution today as well as where it is headed in the future. Such a dynamic tool that enables our team to understand the opinions and needs of patients and families in real-time will be invaluable to Valley Medical Center."

The GetWellNetwork solution empowers patients and families by placing them at the center of their own care experience. The PatientLife System turns the television in the patient room into an interactive resource during a hospital stay. By using a wireless keyboard, touch screen or other handheld devices, patients interact with the system to access valuable education, communication and entertainment tools. This innovative technology is called Interactive Patient Care (IPC) -- enabling healthcare organizations to deliver true patient-centered care and proven to help improve the cost, quality and service of care delivery.

"GetWellNetwork is delighted to be working with Valley Medical Center as their partner for Interactive Patient Care," said Michael O'Neil, Jr., founder and CEO of GetWellNetwork, Inc. "Valley Medical Center clearly possesses an unwavering commitment to the patient experience. Together, we can measurably impact the way patients and families experience their care, while also providing nurses and staff the tools to enhance the delivery of care. GetWellNetwork looks forward to a productive partnership with Valley Medical Center."
