Scott & White University Medical Campus Hospital Opens Monday

Scott & White opens its 72-bed University Medical Campus Hospital here Monday morning, marking the system's first hospital outside its home base of Bell County. The new campus is located about 20 miles north of Austin.
The Temple, Texas-based health system broke ground on the 68-acre campus nearly two years ago. The Scott & White Clinic at University Medical Campus, is now home to more than 30 physicians representing more than 24 specialties.
"We have been eagerly anticipating this day," said Ernie Bovio, CEO of the Round Rock-based hospital. "We have worked diligently over the past few weeks to train and reinforce our processes and also to build our staff's morale and relationships. We are confident that our teamwork and collaborative approach to healthcare will be what sets us apart."
The hospital has hired more than 200 employees. Combined with the UMC Clinic, Scott & White has nearly 350 staff members on campus, making it a key player in the county's economic development.
"The hospital's location, Scott & White's integrated system and our affiliation with the Texas A&M University Health Science Center make us an attractive employer," Bovio said. "We went through a selective process to recruit a strong, experienced group of physicians and staff."
Along with state of the art diagnostic imaging capabilities, Scott & White's key services will include heart and vascular care, orthopedics and women's services.
"We are well prepared and delighted to extend our hospital services to the residents in the greater Williamson County area," said the University Medical Campus Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dudley Baker. "Our services were designed with this community in mind. We think this campus is a good fit for the area."
