Amarillo Biosciences Hires Financial Consultant on Capitalizing Clinical Trials
By David Pittman, Amarillo Globe-News, Texas
Jul. 26–Amarillo Biosciences, a local biotechnology company developing an oral antiviral protein to treat several conditions, announced Tuesday it hired Commonwealth Associates to provide general financial consulting services and aid the company’s capital growth for clinical trials.
Amarillo Biosciences is testing oral interferon’s treatment of oral warts in HIV-positive patients, influenza and a handful of other diseases across the globe. It has used government funding, the sale of restricted stock and help from international partners to fund the process so far.
The biotech and financial companies will work together to secure funding to further interferon studies.
The company also said Texas Tech University researcher Lorenz Lutherer will serve as principal investigator on a study testing oral interferon’s effectiveness with chronic coughing associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The disease is caused by damage to the small airways in the lungs, usually from smoking. It should become the fourth leading cause of death by 2030, the World Health Organization predicts.
