American Medical Careers Names Director of Licensed Practical Nurse Program
Nina Blair, MSN, has been named program director for American Medical Careers’ new Licensed Practical Nurse program. Classes are scheduled to begin at the school’s Flint campus on September 4, 2007.
American Medical Careers received approval from the Michigan State Board of Nursing to offer the one-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate program. Genesys Regional Medical Center will be the school’s clinical partner for the LPN program.
“Ms. Blair’s nearly 30 years of nursing, instructional and supervisory experience will greatly benefit our students and instructors,” said Karl Kaufman, president of American Medical Careers. “Our one-year certificate LPN program offers a fast-track to gaining highly marketable skills in a field where there is significant need.”
Blair received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Wayne County Community College and both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
A resident of Southfield, Blair has worked more recently as a nursing educator for first and second year nursing students in the Detroit area. Her experience also includes a variety of assignments as a staff nurse, charge nurse for medical-surgical units and director of nursing.
American Medical Careers, originally established in 2002 as Genesee CNA Academy, is only one of four career schools in Michigan to offer the LPN certificate program. Among the school’s other patient care specialist programs, students can earn certifications as nurse’s aides (CNA), phlebotomy technicians (CPT), EKG technicians (CET), patient care technicians (CPCT), pharmacy technicians (CPhT), clinical medical assistants (CCMA), and medical administrative assistants (CMAA).
A class for home health aides (CHHA) will also be launched in September.
“Many of our students who earn these certifications work in areas of long term care, home care and hospice, where there is ample entry-level access to a career in the medical field,” explained Kaufman.
“We expect our LPN program to be another important step up the career ladder for students wishing to pursue a career in the medical field,” added Kaufman. “We also want to strengthen our ties with community colleges and other institutions, because we serve as an important feeder school, by providing motivated and well trained individuals.”
