Students Visit Thailand for Study in Global Health
Above, Utah public health student Hitesh Patel conducts an examination on a malaria patient at the Mawker Thai clinic in Mae Sot, Thailand, in lune. At right, public health student Audrey Stevenson listens to the fetal heartbeat of a patient at a maternity clinic also located in Mae Sot, as Patel watches.
UTAH public health students traveled to Thailand in June to observe first-hand the health issues of a developing nation.
The University of Utah’s Physician Assistant and Public Health programs have been sending students to developing nations for several years, but the Thailand trip was the first international elective course for which the students received academic credit.
University of Utah students have also conducted public health work in the African nation of Mali (see The Nation’s Health May 2004 issue).
