Prairie Fire musical

BLOOMINGTON – Prairie Fire Theatre’s second summer production, Irving Berlin’s “Annie Get Your Gun,” opens a two-weekend run in Illinois Wesleyan University’s Westbrook Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Additional performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and Aug. 10 and 11, with 3 p.m. matinees Aug. 5 and 12.

Tickets are $17.25 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students college age and under. Tickets are available at the door, and via area Ticketmaster outlets. To charge by phone, call (309) 454-5500.

Starring are Kate Tombaugh, Robert Mangalardi, Marlon Nettleton, John Cooper, Fred Geyer and Elizabeth Aronson. Directing is Jennifer Schuetz, with musical direction by Katie Handerson and choreography by Greg Merriman.

Loosely based on the life of Annie Oakley, “Annie Get Your Gun” includes such song standards as “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly”).

TheatresCool class

NORMAL – The next round of TheatresCool drama classes begins Aug. 6 downstairs at The Coffeehouse in Normal.

The 10-week sessions are designed for four different age groups, and conclude with an in-class theater performance.

Classes for ages 3 through 7 are at 3:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Aug. 6; for ages 8 through 12, 4:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Aug. 6; for adults, 5 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 8; and for ages 13 through 17, noon Saturdays, beginning Aug. 11.

ISU student show

NORMAL – An old-fashioned melodrama enacted by area high school students will be performed this weekend in Illinois State University’s Allen Theatre.

The show, “The Pineapple Rose, or the Concept of Wealth Is Always Relative,” is a production of the ISU Theatre Education Department and is directed by senior ISU students C.J. Tuor and Nathaniel Haywood.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

The audience-participation melodrama is cast with local high school students between the ages of 13 and 18. For more information, call (3909) 825-9885.

MUSIC

ZZ Top in Peoria

PEORIA – Veteran rockers ZZ Top have been signed for a Sept. 16 concert in the Peoria Civic Center Arena.

Tickets for the show are $25 to $55, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Peoria Civic Center box office and all area Ticketmaster outlets.

The concert begins at 8 p.m., and is expected to cover the band’s entire 30-year history.

Eureka chorale

EUREKA – Area singers from surrounding communities are invited to join the Eureka College Community Chorale, which is returning this fall after a 10-year absence.

The chorale, directed by Joseph Henry, professor of music at Eureka College, will be reinstituted for the 2007-8 academic year.

Membership will be by audition. They will be held the evening of Aug. 16.

Chorale rehearsals will be from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Aug. 23 and continuing through Nov. 8 in Eureka College’s McAllister Hall of the Chapel.

Minimal membership dues will be collected to cover music and accompanist costs.
