BodyMedia Releases SenseWear(R) WMS

August 1, 2007

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ — BodyMedia, Inc., the pioneer in metabolic assessment and behavior therapy solutions, has begun shipping SenseWear(R) WMS (Weight Management Solution) to its clinical customers. BodyMedia will be demonstrating their latest release to allied health professionals and physicians attending the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) 34th Annual Meeting this week in St. Louis from August 1st to August 4th.

SenseWear(R) WMS is the first ever web-based clinical weight management solution to focus on behavior therapy and is designed to improve weight loss outcomes by increasing patient adherence to behavior prescriptions. The system promotes significant and sustainable lifestyle changes for weight loss and improved health by enabling health practitioners and their patients to continuously and easily monitor daily behaviors such as calories burned, nutrition and sleep. “Physicians have no way of knowing the true lifestyle of their patients,” says Dr. Donna Wolf, Manager of Clinical Research at BodyMedia. “Without having accurate lifestyle tracking tools, physicians are left to rely on patient perception. Clinical research shows there is a dilemma. People generally think they eat less and move more than in reality. It’s a simple but critical misconception.”

SenseWear(R) WMS consists of the SenseWear(R) armband for the automated tracking of activity and sleep, the SenseWear(R) display for real-time feedback and the SenseWear(R) WMS web site for users to upload armband data and manually track nutrition intake and weight. The solution enables practitioners to offer short term metabolic assessment and behavior therapy programs as well as longer term weight management programs customized to the current readiness and goals of each patient.

“Promoting lifestyle among patients with diseases such as obesity, diabetes and CVD is the greatest single challenge physicians face in prescribing effective treatment strategies to deal with these chronic problems,” stated Dr. Steven Blair, Professor of Exercise Science, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of South Carolina. “We must arm clinicians and nurses with more objective tracking and behavior change tools in order to promote effective lifestyle interventions so they can help their patients achieve increases in physical activity, improvements in diet and sustainable weight loss to improve their medical condition.”

BodyMedia will be hosting a “Metabolic Rally” and invites attendees to come by booth 845 to test drive the SenseWear(R) armband and SenseWear(R) display during the AADE Meeting, which runs through Saturday, August 4th.
