TeamHealth Announces David Pelini, M.D., As System Medical Director for Memorial Hermann Health System ED Contract
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ — TeamHealth, the nation’s largest provider of hospital-based clinical outsourcing services, today announced the appointment of David C. Pelini, M.D., FACEP, as system medical director for TeamHealth’s new contract with the Memorial Hermann Health System (MHHS) in Houston, Texas.
TeamHealth was selected by MHHS in June 2007 to provide emergency department (ED) staffing and management services for eight of the system’s acute care hospitals. As part of this arrangement, TeamHealth proposed to provide an individual to serve as System Medical Director in order to facilitate the integration and standardization of processes across all eight EDs. In this role, Dr. Pelini will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring and supporting the eight on-site ED medical directors; working with the medical directors in the recruitment, retention, training and development of staff ED physicians and mid-level providers; and fostering operational and clinical initiatives in support of improved patient care and satisfaction.
After interviewing a number of qualified candidates, TeamHealth offered the position to Dr. Pelini, who is scheduled to assume his new role September 1, 2007. Consistent with TeamHealth’s strategy to develop current TeamHealth- affiliated physicians to assume leadership roles, Dr. Pelini has been serving since 1995 as the chairman of the department of emergency medicine for TeamHealth client Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He has also been a member of the clinical faculty at the Fairview Health System Graduate Education program since 1988 and has served as medical director of the ambulance service in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, since 1995. Dr. Pelini earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and performed his residency in general surgery at The Stamford Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is also certified in advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support.
