Homecoming Dances - Are They Hot or Not? You're Only in High School Once

To go to homecoming or not to go to homecoming, that is the question.
Will I be asked? Will she say yes?
These questions puzzle the hormonally imbalanced minds of teens across the nation from early August to October.
Is homecoming something to lose sleep over? No, it's a high school dance. But it's also a landmark in life, a time of youthful bliss when the night is yours to make of it what you desire.
Homecoming doesn't have to be a romantic, lovey-dovey event. Though it seems standard, most students don't go with a boyfriend or girlfriend - or even a love interest for that matter. A large number wind up going with a good friend, or even stag in a group of people.
Some teens are stuck on the idea that the DJ will end up playing 37 love ballads in a row -"I Will Always Love You," by Whitney Houston - and they will be left feeling awkward and unappreciated.
While a slow song is played every so often (mostly to cool people down from the intense dancing), a majority of the songs are the kind everyone can dance to. The music selection is an eclectic mix of overdone '70s hits, a good amount of dance/rap music, and the ever- changing pop songs of the week.
It's not about the music the DJ plays, it's about the good times that just keep on rolling.
Another element of homecoming that is completely misunderstood is the notion that the night will cost heaps of money. The amount of money spent on the evening is completely up to you - depending on what sort of a budget you set aside for the event.
Now that I'm a senior, I have come to realize how quickly the years go by and I don't regret any dance I've ever gone to. Homecoming is about getting all dressed up with your closest friends, feeling like a classy socialite and just having an awesome time being young.
This isn't something that will make or break your life, nor is it something to base your days around. It's a high school dance. But that's what makes it worth attending. You will only have this opportunity once in your lifetime, so live it up while you can and make it a night you will live to remember!
