Astro-Med, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALOT) announced today that it has entered into a formal pact with the Association of Black Cardiologists, Inc. (ABC) to jointly promote the education, diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related disorders.
Astro-Med's Grass Technologies has led the development of integrated systems to detect sleep disorders, including mobile and stationary polysomnographic (PSG) systems and related software. Astro-Med manufactures, distributes and services its sleep diagnostic systems globally.
After years of research and intense education for its Member Physicians, the Association of Black Cardiologists has now adopted the early diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders as a part of its highly effective "Seven Steps to Good Health," campaign, supporting its mission to lower the rate of cardiovascular disease in minority populations by eliminating the disparities related to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and making quality health care accessible and affordable to all in need. ABC is the first cardiology institution worldwide to adopt the diagnosis of sleep disorders as a core component of its platform.
Commenting on the Agreement, Albert Ondis, Chairman and CEO of Astro-Med, stated, "We are thrilled to establish this special relationship with the Association of Black Cardiologists. The ABC is a leader among professional health care organizations in recognizing the connection between sleep disorders and cardiovascular disease and is recognized worldwide for its dedication to eliminating the disproportionately high rate of cardiovascular disease among minority populations. I am personally gratified to know that our PSG sleep diagnostic systems will play a role in advancing these objectives."
Dr. Gerald DeVaughn, President of the Association of Black Cardiologists, stated, "The ABC is delighted to formalize its relationship with Astro-Med's Grass Technologies. The Grass name has been internationally recognized as the standard bearer in neurophysiological instrumentation for over 70 years. I believe our membership will be assured of the integrity and accuracy of sleep-related cardiovascular diagnostics with the use of Grass Technologies(R) polysomnographs and related software. ABC is excited to lead the charge in the cardiology community by placing our organization on the forefront of sleep medicine."
