Computer Programs and Systems' Medical Practice EMR Certified to Connect to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange Operated By SureScripts(R)

Posted on: Monday, 6 August 2007, 15:24 CDT

Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CPSI) today announced that its Medical Practice EMR is certified to connect to the Pharmacy Health Information ExchangeTM operated by SureScripts®.

The Pharmacy Health Information Exchange facilitates the secure, electronic transmission of new prescriptions and refills between physicians and pharmacists. Today, more than 95 percent of all pharmacies are certified on the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange and over two-thirds are processing prescriptions electronically.

Commenting on the announcement, Boyd Douglas, chief executive officer and president of CPSI, stated, "We are excited about receiving SureScripts certification for our Medical Practice EMR. The addition of electronic prescribing to our ambulatory EMR product will provide a major benefit in terms of medication efficiency and safety to our client physicians and their patients. I am proud of the outstanding efforts of our development staff in this achievement."

By removing paper, telephone and fax communications from the prescribing process, electronic prescribing has proven to save time for both physicians and patients and virtually eliminate communication errors. With e-prescribing, prescriptions go directly into the receiving pharmacy's system so pharmacists know exactly what a physician has prescribed without having to interpret poor handwriting or illegible faxes. E-prescribing also eliminates potential errors associated with similar sounding/named drugs and manual data entry.
