Alliance of Community Health Plans Names Carole McGeehan Johnson to Top Policy Post

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) today named Carole McGeehan Johnson its director of policy.

In her new role, Johnson is responsible for advancing ACHP's legislative and regulatory agenda to improve health care in the United States. She reports directly to Jack Ebeler, ACHP's president and CEO.

"Carole's exposure to health policy on Capitol Hill and at leading advocacy and philanthropic organizations gives her valuable insight into our agenda," said Ebeler. "She will make important contributions to our work for better care."

ACHP believes that all Medicare Advantage health plans should collect and publicly report quality data, regardless of plan design, to encourage improvements in health care. ACHP also supports creating incentives for plans and providers in Medicare to deliver high-quality care and demonstrate improvement.

"It's important that providers and consumers have access to meaningful information so they can make informed decisions," said Johnson. "If we offer incentives to deliver the best care, it will encourage the entire system to improve."

About Carole McGeehan Johnson

Johnson comes to ACHP from The Pew Charitable Trusts, where she was a program officer. At the Trusts, she developed and managed grants and initiatives focused on advancing federal policy solutions to substance abuse treatment, child welfare financing and long-term care insurance issues.

Previously, Johnson was senior government relations manager with the American Heart Association (AHA) where she managed and implemented the Association's health care policy agenda.

Prior to her tenure with AHA, Johnson was the health care legislative assistant to former Representative Karen Thurman, a member of the House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee. She was responsible for Medicare, Social Security and health insurance issues. She also previously served on the legislative staff of former Representative William Hughes.

A magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The Catholic University of America, Johnson received an MA in government from the University of Virginia.
