Edmund J. Pezalla, M.D., MPH Named National Medical Director for Aetna Pharmacy Management

Aetna (NYSE:AET) announced today that it has appointed Edmund J. Pezalla, M.D., MPH, national medical director for Aetna Pharmacy Management.

"We are very pleased to have Dr. Pezalla join Aetna's clinical team," said Troyen Brennan, M.D., chief medical officer for Aetna. "This role will take advantage of Dr. Pezalla's expertise in medicine and pharmacology, enabling him to work closely with Aetna Pharmacy Management's chief pharmacy officer and other Aetna medical directors to influence innovative, high-quality pharmacy programs and encourage effective use of prescription drugs by Aetna members."

Dr. Pezalla was most recently vice president of clinical services for Prescription Solutions, a wholly owned pharmacy benefits management subsidiary of Ovations. He was a health services research fellow and lecturer in pediatrics at the University of Michigan, and ran a consulting practice serving managed care firms. He has been director of clinical services for Pfizer Health Solutions, and the chief of pediatrics and attending pediatrician at the Permanente Medical Group in Fremont, CA.

He is a board-certified pediatrician, has his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University, and his masters of public health from the University of California at Berkeley in maternal and child health.
