Diagnostic HYBRIDS announces the release of its patented Super E-Mix cell line for enterovirus culture in the frozen ReadyCells® format. The availability of Super E-Mix in this novel format allows even the smallest clinical laboratory to offer the sensitivity and speed of rapid cell culture for diagnosis of enteroviral infection. The ReadyCells are provided as confluent monolayers in shell vials and stored frozen at -70°C for up to six months, allowing laboratories to keep the cells from a single production lot available while minimizing cell waste. Cells are thawed as needed to meet daily specimen volumes and ready to inoculate with clinical specimen in four minutes with Diagnostic HYBRIDS’ specialized ReadyCells heat block.

According to Patricia Harris, Executive Director of Worldwide Sales for Diagnostic HYBRIDS, “The ReadyCells platform was successfully launched in June 2002 with an initial release of R-Mix®, Hs27 and McCoy ReadyCells. These products have enabled clinical laboratories to perform cell culture for a large number of respiratory viruses including Influenza and RSV, herpes viruses including HSV-1, HSV-2, CMV and VZV, and other sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia. The addition of Super E-Mix further empowers these laboratories to offer their patients the highest quality result in the shortest timeframe possible.”

ReadyCells provides flexibility to all virus culture labs. Large users gain benefit when test volume exceeds expectations, and the frozen inventory helps eliminate weekly shipping costs for smaller volume laboratories. International customers benefit from access to patented cell systems like R-Mix and Super E-Mix that otherwise would not be possible due to extreme shipping stress. In all cases, ReadyCells remain frozen and useful until the user needs them.

Super E-Mix ReadyCells complement the Diagnostic HYBRIDS enterovirus detection products, which include patented Flocked Swabs for specimen collection, Universal Transport Medium for specimen transport, and the recently introduced D3® IFA Enterovirus Identification Kit.
