SANTA CLARITA — Kaiser Permanente will help fund two children’s health programs in Santa Clarita — one targeting youth obesity and the other aimed at getting dental treatment for kids from low- income families.

The nonprofit health organization awarded $30,000 each to two nonprofit groups, the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley and the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health.

The Boys & Girls Club’s new Triple Play program is a a comprehensive health, fitness and wellness initiative addressing the growing epidemic of obesity in children and adolescents. The goal is to educate youngsters on nutrition, engage them in exercise and help them develop healthy self-images.

The dental health group will receive $30,000 over three years for its Healthy Smiles program, a fluoride varnish treatment program addressing early childhood tooth decay in preschool-age children of low-income families.

The dental health foundation works with dental students who provide free treatment once a year for qualifying families.
