Tenet Healthcare Workers Fighting for Improved Patient Care in Garden Grove
Posted on: Thursday, 9 August 2007, 21:09 CDT
GARDEN GROVE, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare workers will rally outside of Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center on Monday in response to Tenet Healthcare Corporation's refusal to put adequate resources and equipment into patient care at its facilities. A recent survey of workers at Tenet hospitals shows numerous shortcomings in supplies, equipment, and staffing throughout the troubled hospital chain's facilities in California.
This is only the latest example of Tenet's long history of placing concerns about profits ahead of concerns about patients. Last year, the chain agreed to pay a whopping $725 million to settle allegations of Medicare overbilling and illegal kickbacks to doctors. Among the survey results to be announced Monday, 63 percent of Tenet healthcare workers systemwide said their unit was understaffed at least once a week.
Workers will also hold a simultaneous picket at another Tenet hospital in Modesto.
