Mintz Levin Adds Former Cabrini Medical Center General Counsel Margaret D. Kranz to Its New York Office
After 13 years serving as General Counsel of New York-based Cabrini Medical Center, Margaret D. Kranz has returned to private practice, joining the New York office of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. as Of Counsel in the Health Law Practice.
As General Counsel at New York City’s Cabrini Medical Center, an acute care facility with several affiliated entities, Ms. Kranz was responsible for overseeing all legal matters, including corporate governance, regulatory matters, managed care contract negotiation, real estate transactions, and physicians’ employment agreements and contractual arrangements. In addition, Ms. Kranz managed issues pertaining to the Medical Center’s captive insurance company, including a reinsurance arrangement for voluntary attending physicians and the development and implementation of a self-insurance trust. Ms. Kranz also oversaw professional and general liability cases, including establishment of reserves, litigation strategy and settlement of claims and selection of defense counsel.

Prior to joining Cabrini Medical Center, Ms. Kranz was an associate at Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle (currently Nixon Peabody LLP), where her practice encompassed a full range of health law issues, including the representation of hospitals, nursing homes, physician groups and diagnostic treatment centers. Throughout her career, Ms. Kranz has also had considerable experience in contractual matters including nursing home acquisition, computer contracts, construction contracts, physician joint ventures, financing, equipment leasing, and vendor agreements; counseling of providers in connection with patient self-determination issues, consent to treatment, do-not-resuscitate orders and policies, drug and alcohol abuse record confidentiality requirements, determination of brain death and similar matters; Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party reimbursement issues; certificate of need applications; and medical staff matters and various other legal needs of health care providers.
Ms. Kranz earned her law degree with distinction from Hofstra University School of Law and she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from C.W. Post Center, Long Island University.
