Posted on: Thursday, 16 August 2007, 12:17 CDT

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- In Florida, pain is an epidemic affecting five million residents.

The pain epidemic and those who live it will be the focus of the trailblazing symposium, Pain Expo 2007, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Dr. Mehmet Oz is among dozens of professionals who will explore medical and lifestyle breakthroughs during two days of symposiums, exhibitions and hands-on programs designed to help patients and health professionals.

Registration is under way now. Thousands of patients, caregivers and healthcare workers are expected to take advantage of the "all under one roof" benefits of Pain Expo, which includes CME credits for health professionals.

"Pain Expo will change lives," says the event's Orlando-based creator, Rowe Jones, a former chronic pain patient and a leading motivational speaker whose "Happy With Pain" program continues to have a positive impact on those who live with pain.

"People with chronic pain and the medical professionals who treat it have a need to know about the latest treatments, services and products and we have that at Pain Expo," Jones says.

Dr. Oz, the globally-acclaimed, Oprah-endorsed "Top Doc" who authored the "You" series of bestsellers, tops the conference keynote roster with his "Healing Through Understanding" message.

"Pain punctures our sense of wellness," says Oz, professor and vice chairman of surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. Oz says Pain Expo promises to be a "fulfilling approach to achieving vitality."

"This is an incredible line up for the Pain Expo," said Winter Park neurologist and headache specialist Marc Sharfman, M.D., director of the Headache & Neurological Treatment Institute. "There will be a tremendous amount of information available for many types of conditions," says Sharfman, a conference presenter.

University of Florida professor Robert P. Yezierski, Ph.D., who directs UF's Comprehensive Center for Pain Research, believes the Pain Expo's interdisciplinary agenda will serve patients well.

"It will provide an energetic boost to those needing a reason to change their pain management strategy and begin experiencing life with a new sense of purpose, commitment and enjoyment," says Yezierski, a keynote presenter and president of the Florida Pain Initiative, an advocacy and educational alliance of industry professionals dedicated to improving pain management in Florida.

Expo presenters also include Scott Brady, M.D., founder of the Brady Institute of Health at Florida Hospital and author of the best-seller, "Pain Free for Life"; David Trock, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and author of "Healing Fibromyalgia"; Brian Fuselier, D.D.S, a facial pain expert and partner at Central Florida Oral Surgery; Beree Darby, Ph.D., a psychoneuroimmunologist specializing in self- hypnosis and human performance; and Olympic Gold medalist Rowdy Gaines, who beat Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Sessions will address arthritis, headaches, back pain, facial pain, cancer-related pain, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, fitness, the food-pain connection, acupuncture, spirituality, caregiver support, chiropractic, energy medicine, self-hypnosis and more.

Extra features include the "Relaxation Station," an enclave for meditation, message and comfort products.

Partners also include WFTV, Cox Radio, The Trigeminal Neuralgia Association and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.

"We are proud to be supporting this opportunity to educate so many in the area of pain," said Nicole G. Santapola, professional education specialist, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, "from healthcare professionals to patients."

Advanced registration is $99 (before Sept. 15) and $125 thereafter.
