WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — CAQH, an alliance of the nation’s leading health plans and associations working to simplify healthcare administration, announced today that its Board of Directors has elected Ronald A. Williams, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Aetna, as its chairman.

Williams succeeds Robert J. Greczyn, Jr., president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, who will now serve CAQH as immediate past chairman.

“Ron Williams is widely respected by our industry for his expertise in strategy, operations and creating innovative approaches to health care benefits products and services,” said Robin Thomashauer, CAQH executive director. “We look forward to advancing our mission of simplifying healthcare administration under his leadership.”

Since joining Aetna, Williams has focused on creating innovation in the industry, especially through information technology, and bringing new levels of transparency to the health care system. Under his leadership, Aetna has sought to make a positive impact on health care in America by focusing the industry, public policy leaders, physicians and employers on issues aimed at increasing access and affordability.

“Aetna wants to be at the forefront of the national debate on health care in America, and we’re actively engaged at the local, state and federal levels to advance health care reform,” said Williams. We believe we can help build a better system and are working through CAQH to help effect positive, meaningful change in the administrative side of health care.”

Prior to his current positions, Williams served as president of Aetna and head of its business operations. He previously held senior positions at WellPoint and Blue Cross of California.

CAQH also announced its Board has re-elected Jay Gellert, president and CEO, Health Net, Inc., as chairman of the Administrative Simplification Committee.
