Kit Takes Pain Out of Migraine Explanations

Explaining migraines to friends and family can be stressful enough to trigger a migraine for some sufferers.
But a new kit called "Understanding in a Box" from Pfizer may help.
The kit contains pocket-sized tip sheets for sufferers, their spouses and friends; a children's book called "Mama Lion's Migraine"; and a brochure about Pfizer's migraine drug Relpax.
You can get it for free by logging onto www.migrainerelief.com or by calling 1-(866) 519-0300 .
Magazine touts MSM
Methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, is Esquire's "Drug of the Month."
In the magazine's December issue, a former athlete who used MSM describes it as better than glucosamine or Aleve for relieving sore joints.
But MSM isn't approved as a drug in the United States, although it's sold as a supplement at health stores. And the scientific jury's still out on whether it's beneficial.
According to the Arthritis Foundation's supplement guide, MSM is an organic sulfur compound. Because the body uses sulfur to form connective tissue, the theory is that MSM supplements can help reduce pain and inflammation in the joints.
The guide says some animal studies have supported that, and a small study in humans indicated it eased arthritis symptoms. But no large human studies have shown it effective for arthritis or joint pain.
Tip of the week
From Activate Omaha's "Sprint Through the Holidays" campaign:
To avoid holiday stress, don't overbook. Reflect on what really matters to you and say no to extra obligations.
To work in a workout while shopping, slip on comfortable shoes and a pedometer and walk the mall before you shop.
To lighten recipes, choose lower-fat versions of high-fat ingredients. For example, substitute evaporated skim milk for cream.
