North Texas Hospital Announces the Opening of a New Program for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine

Officials at North Texas Hospital in Denton announced today the opening of the hospital's new Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine. Located in Suite 230 of the Professional Building on the North Texas Medical Plaza campus at 2817 S. Mayhill Rd., the program specializes in the treatment of problem wounds, a growing problem spurred by the aging of America and the increase in diabetes. Approximately 18.5 million Americans have diabetes, and of that population about 1.8 million will suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds.
The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine at North Texas Hospital is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient's referring and primary care physician. A state-of-the-art facility, the Center provides the most advanced therapies and the latest clinical modalities. Treatment options include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT is a procedure for specific types of wounds in which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. This procedure delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and tissues accelerating the wound healing process. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The program operates by appointment and requires a referral from a physician.
Drs. Damien M. Dauphinee and Rodney Lindsay serve as Co-Medical Directors for the program. Dr. Dauphinee is a certified wound specialist and a member of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery specializing in diabetic limb salvage and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. His training includes surgical treatment of certain types of peripheral neuropathy, a leading cause of ulceration in diabetic patients. Dr. Lindsay, a Board Certified Family Medicine physician, has dedicated his practice to the treatment of wounds and manages the hyperbaric medicine program at the Center.
Together, they lead a team of wound care professionals with over 70 years of combined clinical experience in treating problem wounds. The Program Director, Kathie Roberts, RN and Clinical Coordinator, Liz LaBate, RN are the heart and soul of the Center's team and direct care for the wound and hyperbaric patients. Drs. Nicole Hancock, a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon, and Jeff Stone, a wound care and hyperbaric physician, contribute to the multidisciplinary approach the Center incorporates for every patient.
