Indiana State Department of Health Safeguards Critical Laboratories With 22 Franek Technologies Power Protection Systems

The Indiana State Department of Health has acquired 22 Franek Technologies certified Category III-3 Laboratory Battery Backup Power Protection Systems (LPS/UPS) to protect mission critical instruments conducting pandemic research and clinical analysis as part of the state's emergency preparedness measures and the nation's Bio-Shield Program. As a result of these installations, the Indiana State Department of Health laboratories will be protected against power fluctuations or failure that could otherwise cause loss of samples and data, costly damage to instrumentation, as well as significant lost productive time.
Franek Technologies' engineering team provided consultation and design of power protection systems for highly specialized and sensitive instrumentation from Applied Biosystems, Agilent, Bio-Rad, bioMerieux, Roche, Gilson, PerkinElmer, and Zymark. The protected instrumentation is integral in the laboratories' biomedical research program and its fight against bioterrorism and emerging viral infections, such as the Avian Influenza A (H5N1 - bird flu) and the West Nile virus.
The state-of-the-art Department of Health laboratories rely on extremely sophisticated instrumentation to conduct high-throughput research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, pandemic, and immunologic diseases. Such long-term testing and processes often rely on highly leveraged robotic automation that is extremely sensitive to uncontrolled electrical and environmental conditions, such as power fluctuations, intra-lab harmonic distortion or interruptions. Due to the importance of the research conducted at the Department of Health, the state of Indiana decided that supplemental power protection was crucial.
