FIBROMYALGIA syndrome (FMS) formerly known as fibrositis is a painful, debilitating condition that affects the muscles, tendons and ligaments. Symptoms include chronic fatigue that can range from mild to incapacitating, incessant pain, lack of energy leading to crippling fatigue, sleeping difficulties, intolerance of the cold, irritable bowel syndrome, memory impairment, poor concentration, skin sensitivity, dizziness and balance problems, headaches, joint and muscles pains and irritable bladder. Other symptoms often experienced by people with FMS include restless leg syndrome dry eyes and mouth, anxiety and depression.

Simple activities such as walking, sitting, climbing stairs and carrying light goods are often painful and very difficult for FMS sufferers.

Many people with FMS are unable to live independent lives because chores such as shopping, vacuuming, ironing and gardening are too painful or they lack energy to complete these basic tasks.

Anyone wishing to come along to the Vale of Glamorgan FMS Support Group can contact Barbara Clissett on 0870 751 7319 for further information. Carers are also welcome. Blodwen Morgan, Romilly Park Road, Barry.
