The father of Florida's first sextuplets is asking people to pray for the survival of his five sons and one daughter born Labor Day weekend.
Ben Byler, 30, made the request before two of the infants were reported in critical condition and two others were listed as serious at All Children's Hospital, the St. Petersburg Times reported Monday.
Thanks to the Lord above, if everyone could just keep us in their prayers that would be great, Byler said.
The tiny infants, each weighing 3 pounds or less, were delivered by a team of 35 doctors and nurses at Bayfront Medical Center just before 30 weeks of gestation. If they had gone to full term, they would have been born in November.
Their brains and lungs are still developing, said Dr. Roberto Sosa, chief of neonatology at All Children's, We're just trying to do what Mother Nature will do.
The sextuplets' mother, Karoline, 29, had been receiving infertility treatments.
