Lucid, Inc., a leading U.S. cellular imaging and technology company, today announced the appointment of Clifford Perlis, M.D., M.Be., as the new U.S. Medical Director. He is currently the Director of Mohs Surgery in the Department of Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
In the newly created position at Lucid, Dr. Perlis will play a key role in the direction of Lucid's clinical and medical research programs, support medical training and marketing initiatives, and aid in the submission of IRB protocols to third party organizations.
Dr. Perlis received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and also holds a Master's in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania.
"Lucid is an innovative and dynamic company with a broad technology portfolio in the medical imaging and information fields. The company plans to initially apply these innovative imaging technologies in the field of dermatology, allowing my peers to attain a level of diagnostic capability similar to that radiologists routinely achieve using MRI and CT scans of the body. Ultimately, Lucid's confocal imaging technology will be applied in numerous other medical technologies," said Dr. Perlis.
Lucid is the creator of the non-invasive VivaScope(R) confocal microscope that provides cellular resolution images of skin, and of the VivaNet(TM), an Internet-based, DICOM-compliant medical information system that enables the transfer of VivaScope(R) digital images between practitioners and pathologists for rapid review of confocal images.
"As Lucid moves toward the launch of its clinical applications for VivaScopes and the VivaNet, it is important to have a voice on our management team that can express the needs of physicians and patients to our Board of Directors and the company's outside stakeholders. Dr. Clifford Perlis, a practicing dermatologic surgeon with degrees in medicine and bioethics, is very well suited to this role. I look forward to working with Dr. Perlis as we move Lucid's unique technologies into routine medical practice around the world," said Jay Eastman, Chairman and CEO of Lucid, Inc.
