Old Bikes Like New

November 28, 2004

The Mearig Hyundai/Kia dealership on Manheim Pike is again working to brighten the holidays for bicycle-riding kids in the area. For the fourth straight year, bikes taken in from the community are being reconditioned by Mearig employees volunteering their time. The bikes will be delivered to the Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster and then distributed to needy kids as part of the club’s annual pre-holiday Toys for Tots program. Above, automotive technician Chris Bodish replaces the tire tube on one bike, while at left, below, new bike tires are gathered in a garage. The finished result is tested at left, above, by Alex Weaver, son of Mearig auto technician Carl Weaver. Mearig has donated more than 300 bikes to Toys for Tots, with technicians performing repairs and the detailing and office staffs then washing and cleaning the bikes.
