Posted on: Friday, 14 September 2007, 09:00 CDT

Tenet's Southern States Region announced today that Teresa C. Urquhart has been named chief executive officer at Coastal Carolina Medical Center, a 41-bed acute care hospital located in Hardeeville, S.C. Urquhart has served as interim CEO at Coastal Carolina since Tenet acquired the hospital on July 1. She reports to Elizabeth Lamkin, president of Hilton Head Regional Healthcare, which includes Coastal Carolina and Hilton Head Regional Medical Center in Hilton Head, S.C. Urquhart's promotion is effective immediately.

"Teresa has done a remarkable job of quickly earning the respect of the employees and physicians at Coastal Carolina during her short tenure as interim CEO," said John Holland, senior vice president of Tenet's Southern States Region. "We value her long history with the company, and she will continue to play a key role in the development of this important market."

"I have greatly enjoyed my experience at Coastal Carolina, and am excited at the opportunity to continue working with our physicians and employees to provide quality health care services to the community," said Urquhart. "I am also excited to be returning to the South where I was raised and where much of my family still lives."

Urquhart, 46, has worked for Tenet and its predecessor companies for 22 years. She most recently served as chief operating officer at Sierra Medical Center, a 351 bed acute care hospital that is part of Tenet's Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN) in El Paso, Texas. Sierra had many successes under Urquhart's leadership, including multiple HealthGrades rankings, Cigna Center of Excellence designations and a United Health PremiumSM Program Cardiac Network Quality designation. She also is the recipient of two Tenet Circle of Excellence awards, which are prestigious awards bestowed upon the company's top hospitals.

Prior to becoming COO at Sierra Medical Center, Urquhart held several positions at SPHN, including COO at the 72-bed Sierra Providence Physical Rehabilitation Hospital and the administrator of skilled nursing units at Providence Memorial Hospital, a 508 bed acute care hospital.

Urquhart's early career focused on rehabilitation, where she worked in hospital administration and on corporate clinical quality programs. She also has served as Tenet's corporate director of rehabilitation quality improvement for three years.

Urquhart has a bachelor's degree in medical records administration from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N. C., and a master's degree in health services administration from Webster University in El Paso.
