Rodale Inc., the authoritative source for trusted content in health and wellness worldwide, announced today that Maria Rodale, Chairman of the Board, will be honored by Americans for UNFPA (The United Nations Population Fund) for her dedication and perseverance in promoting the health and dignity of women around the world. The event will be held at Gotham Hall in New York City on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Other American honorees include media mogul Ted Turner, The Honorable Member of Congress Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), and Wendy Cai, Director, Chinese Services Group, Deloitte & Touche USA.

“Americans for UNFPA empowers millions of women around the world by providing them with the information and education they need to be equal partners in improving their health, communities and taking control of their lives. I am honored to be receiving an award from Americans for UNFPA, especially in such distinguished company,” said Maria Rodale, Chairman of the Board of Rodale.

As the largest international non-profit source of assistance to women, the UNFPA provides healthcare services to 500 million women around the world. Thousands of UNFPA workers are on the ground in as many as 140 countries, providing counseling and services to women who have little access to health services, fundamental rights and health education. The UNFPA works at all levels of society to transform cultures so that violence against women, early marriage, and lack of education for young women are no longer the norm. Americans for UNFPA is dedicated to building American support for the work of UNFPA.

The 2007 American Honorees are individuals who see themselves as part of a common humanity in which the actions of one person can make a difference to all women. They combine entrepreneurship with social and civic responsibility to advance the health and dignity of women.

“Our honorees are trail blazers, mentors, visionaries and advocates for women everywhere,” says Anika Rahman, President, Americans for UNFPA. “Rather than be overwhelmed by the problems women face in most of the world, our honorees confront them. Rather than thinking the problems are too big, they choose one challenge and apply their expertise. Our honorees don’t see victims of poverty, HIV or violence. They see women who lack partners to help them change the world.”
