REMINDER: ORLive Presents: Orthotopic Heart Transplant Procedure
Posted on: Wednesday, 19 September 2007, 09:02 CDT
"It is estimated in this country, between sixty and one hundred thousand people could benefit from a new heart. But only twenty-two hundred hearts are available and that number keeps dropping every year," says Dr. Daniel Goldstein of the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center. On the subject of heart donorship, he adds, "You're giving life to someone, it's the best gift you can give anybody."
On September 19th, 2007 at 7:00 pm EDT, The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center in New York will present an OR-Live.com webcast of a panel discussion on an orthotopic heart transplant. This transplant procedure was performed on April 17, 2007 by Dr. David D'Alessandro, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Center. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Daniel Goldstein, Surgical Director of Cardiac Transplantation, Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center. They will be joined by a live audience of surgeon-colleagues and cardiologists. The webcast will feature video portions of the procedure as well as detailed descriptions of the techniques used.
This will be the first heart transplant procedure ever webcast on OR-Live. Dr. Daniel Goldstein will moderate a range of discussion topics including a clinical description of the procedure and after care.
He will also discuss how patients are screened, selected, and ultimately awarded a heart.
This will be the second OR-Live webcast from the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center, an integral part of their ongoing effort to increase patient and professional awareness and knowledge regarding advances in Cardiac Surgery and care.
