Take One Step Toward a Solution: AIDS Walk Michigan - Ann Arbor 2007
Posted on: Wednesday, 19 September 2007, 09:02 CDT
Take action and join us on Sunday, September 30th in downtown Ann Arbor to make a difference. The AIDS Walk is a 3.2 mile walk to raise funds for local HIV/AIDS services. It is also an event that helps to raise awareness about the continuing impact that HIV/AIDS has on individuals, families and the community. The AIDS Walk benefits the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan and the HIV/AIDS Resource Center. Over 500 walkers are expected to participate in this year's event to help raise $35,000 for HIV/AIDS education, prevention and support services.
Honorary Chairs for the 2007 AIDS Walk Michigan - Ann Arbor include Congressman John Dingell, Speaker of the House Andy Dillon, State Representatives Pam Byrnes and Alma Wheeler Smith, Washtenaw County Administrator Bob Guenzel, and Ann Arbor Police Chief Barnett Jones. This year's event is generously sponsored by Pfizer Global Research and Development, Frontline Church, St. Joseph Mercy Health System, and The Ann Arbor News.
Jimena Loveluck, President and CEO of the HIV/AIDS Resource Center, commented on the Walk. "As a united community, we can continue to raise awareness about an epidemic that is affecting more and more of our community members. This event is an opportunity for all of us to show that we care about people living with HIV/AIDS because they are our family members, our friends, our co-workers, and our neighbors."
Registration is free and begins at 12 noon in the Detroit Edison parking lot (corner of Main and William streets). The walk begins at 1:00 pm, continuing through downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan campus. Refreshments, food, and entertainment for all ages will be provided through generous contributions of local businesses, including Arbor Springs, Barry's Bagels, Great Harvest, People's Food Co-op, Washtenaw Dairy and Whole Foods. This is a great event in which the whole family can participate.
