Architect of Healthy Arkansas Wins National Recognition
LITTLE ROCK - The director of the Arkansas Department of Health has won a leadership award from the National Public Health Leadership Institute for the Healthy Arkansas project.
Dr. Fay Boozman received the Martha Katz Award for leading the department's efforts on creating a "culture of health" in Arkansas. The institute said it honored the statewide project for its emphasis on nutrition, physical activity and anti-tobacco use measures.
The institute also credited Boozman with helping to reward positive behaviors for adults, expanding benefit coverage for state employees and Medicaid recipients and creating healthy school environments. It said the efforts resulted in new policies, a state chronic disease plan and media and private business support.
