Tickets Going Fast for St. Joe’s Holiday Ball
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ — Tickets for the 2007 St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Holiday Ball are available now, but event organizers note that they are already in limited supply due to overwhelming demand. The annual black-tie event, now in its 32nd year and featuring the romantic theme, As Time Goes By, is set for Dec. 8. Proceeds from this year’s event benefit the hospital’s oncology unit in the new East Patient Tower, opening in October.
“The Holiday Ball is truly a special event, driven each year by incredible volunteers and generous companies who give of their time, energy and resources to this great cause,” says Holiday Ball Chair Techy Rodriguez-Doyle, a cancer survivor who owes her recovery to the expert medical team at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. “We’ve already surpassed our original fund-raising goal and tickets are now in limited supply. This may be the first year that we’ll have to turn people away because we’ve run out of space.”
Presenting sponsor Cadillac is joining an impressive array of sponsor companies and individuals throughout southeastern Michigan who are supporting the Holiday Ball, proving their commitment to bettering the health of the community.
“The St. Joe’s Holiday Ball is the only event of its type in Ann Arbor,” says Techy. “Community leaders get together socially and network and good things happen when they build relationships. Our community becomes stronger, which positively affects all of the greater Detroit area. I believe the St. Joe’s Holiday Ball is one of the best kept secrets in Southeast Michigan, and we’re out to ‘expose’ that secret. We want everyone in our community to know about the great work going on at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, how they can help and have a terrific time at a magnificent evening event, while raising a lot of money to help cancer patients in their recoveries. It is thanks to great companies like Cadillac and dozens of others that we can do this.”
Cadillac will display the all-new 2008 CTS throughout the event, so attendees will get an intimate look at this incredible new vehicle.
“We are very pleased to support the fine efforts of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and its dedicated oncology program through its annual Holiday Ball,” said Jim Taylor, general manager of Cadillac. “Cancer touches all of our lives and finding ways to ease the treatment process is a goal we can all support.”
Through the theme, As Time Goes By, Techy plans to bring the romantic Moroccan atmosphere of the movie “Casablanca” to Ann Arbor through carefully selected food, music and decorations. Towering white palms, the warm glow of Moroccan colors and soft candlelight will transport guests for the evening to a glamorous 1940s nightclub. The Ball begins with a cocktail hour catered by Ann Arbor’s Food For All Seasons, followed by an elegant dinner with a French flair by Detroit’s legendary Opus One. Throughout the evening, guests will be able to sip Moroccan coffee and enjoy exotic desserts under a tent that will provide the illusion of being in a far-away desert landscape.
The Detroit-based and nationally-acclaimed band “Intrigue” will provide music to suit a variety of tastes. Guests looking for a break from dancing or a quiet place to chat during the evening will have an appealing place to do so: an intimate lounge, where fez-wearing waiters will serve cocktails and desserts all night. Techy describes it as a “1940s chic Moroccan hotel that will be very romantic, with lots of draped fabric, Moroccan lanterns and soft candlelight.”
The Holiday Ball will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8, directly across the street from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center. The black-tie event begins at 6:30 p.m. with photos and a cocktail reception in the Atrium of the Convocation Center; dinner seating will follow at 8 p.m. with dancing until midnight.
