RxHub Announces Partnership With Presbyterian Health Plan to Improve Healthcare for New Mexico Communities

Posted on: Thursday, 20 September 2007, 12:00 CDT

RxHub, the largest national patient health information network providing clinical decision support information for the ePrescribing industry announces an agreement with Presbyterian Health Plan. This will enable authorized physicians access to critical patient information which allows them to make informed prescribing decisions at the point of prescribing that promote patient safety and manage costs associated with healthcare delivery.

Presbyterian Health Plan is New Mexico's largest managed care organization, providing commercial health insurance to employers, employees, individuals, as well as Medicaid and Medicare to more than 435,000 New Mexicans.

"Presbyterian is pleased to be working with RxHub to provide secure access for authorized physicians to patient-specific clinical decision support information at the point of care," stated Larry Georgopolous, director of pharmacy for Presbyterian Health Plan. "We are committed to improving the quality of care for our members and the partnership with RxHub contributes to this goal."

As part of a concerted effort to improve safety in delivery of prescription drugs, Presbyterian also participates in the New Mexico Prescription Improvement Coalition (NMPIC) that is charged with encouraging ePrescribing to address patient safety and rising healthcare costs. NMPIC is focused on reducing the negative health effects associated with inappropriate drug treatment in Medicare beneficiaries and serves New Mexico's community interests through education, clinical guidelines for chronic disease treatment, and drug utilization management practices.

"The important addition of Presbyterian Health Plan to the RxHub National Health Information Network™ increases the value ePrescribing provides to prescribers and pharmacists utilizing certified technologies," stated JP Little, Chief Operating Officer for RxHub. "Patients who provide consent to their physician to access their prescription eligibility, formulary and medication history information, at the point-of-care, will contribute to the patient safety and cost efficiency successes realized by the participating communities in New Mexico."
