Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced that two growing healthcare provider networks, Mercy Medical Center of Baltimore, Md. and Kennedy Memorial Hospitals of Voorhees, N.J., have selected Picis technology to help them improve patient safety and operational efficiencies in high-acuity care areas across their network of hospitals. Picis’ comprehensive information systems enable hospitals to automate clinical documentation and business practices in the emergency department (ED), operating rooms (OR), post-anesthesia care units (PACUs) and intensive care units.

Mercy Medical Center has chosen Picis’ total perioperative automation system for all of their operating room suites spanning three different surgery areas — Mercy Medical Center’s main hospital, the Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine at Mercy, and the New Inpatient Tower, currently under construction. Mercy’s selection of Picis CareSuite™ is designed to provide fast and accurate flow of patient data throughout the entire perioperative continuum of care, including preoperative assessments, intraoperative documentation, automation of the legal anesthetic record and recovery room documentation. With the Picis integrated product suite and seamless data sharing with Mercy’s Meditech hospital information system, OR staff can decrease repetitive documentation and phone calls, increase patient throughput, reduce overtime labor and help promote improved quality of patient care.

“Expanding our relationship with Picis provides us with a roadmap for the future,” said Susan MacMillan, senior vice president, Patient Care, Mercy Medical Center. “Picis total perioperative solution gives us a leading solution that can benefit our patients and clinicians by helping provide easier access to patient information anytime, anywhere.”

In addition to implementing CareSuite OR Manager, Anesthesia Manager, Preop Manager, PACU Manager, Quality Manager and SmarTrack®, Mercy Medical Center is using Picis Business Transformation Services to discover process improvements and best practices for optimizing these high-cost areas with Picis’ cutting-edge technology.

Kennedy Memorial Hospitals — University Medical Center has chosen ED PulseCheck®, Picis’ Web-native emergency department information system (EDIS), for all hospital campuses — University Medical Center Cherry Hill, University Medical Center Stratford and University Medical Center Washington Township. Combined, these sites treat 118,000 emergency patients each year. ED PulseCheck enables automated patient tracking and information management from triage through physician and nursing documentation, thereby enhancing charge management, risk management and prescription writing with a single, powerful application. With this user-friendly software, clinicians can effectively optimize productivity, workflow efficiency and patient safety in the ED.

“More healthcare providers are learning that automating high-acuity care requires proven software solutions for these critical areas of the hospital, and that compromising with partially available solutions is too risky,” said Todd Cozzens, president and CEO, Picis. “Picis, with our 100 percent focus on high-acuity care software and our interoperability with all leading hospital information systems, helps clinicians improve the quality of care they provide, while enabling hospitals to improve clinical and business processes and benefit from rapid hard dollar ROI across all their facilities.”
