News From USW: USW Launches 'Stop Toxic Imports' Campaign to Protect Kids

WHO: U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), USW International President Leo W. Gerard, Chicago grandmother Marilyn Furer, David Foster, executive director of the Blue Green Alliance, and Les Leopold, founder of the Public Health Institute.
WHAT: Press conference to launch a North American 'Stop Toxic Imports' campaign that includes the distribution of tens of thousands of free lead screening kits
WHEN: Wednesday, on Sept. 26 at 2:15 pm
WHERE: Room 385 of the Russell Senate Office Building.
WHY: To protect kids and promote public awareness about unregulated globalization and the gutting of federal regulatory agencies.
VISUALS: A large panel display will visually tell the story of how toxic trade kills jobs and endangers families. A table full of toxic and recalled toys also is part of the set. A lead screening demonstration will be part of the event.
According to the USW, the project will mobilize union activists to mount a series of events across the U.S. and Canada to stop dangerous imported products from entering the domestic markets and homes. Coalition partners in the campaign include the Public Health Institute and the Center for Environmental Health.
A calendar of targeted campaign events will be announced to include "USW Safe Home Sessions" across North America and the distribution of tens of thousands of free lead screening kits.
