Barnes-Jewish Hospital Improves Communication, Information Flow

Nationally renowned Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a TransportTracking™ user since 2000, recently migrated to TeleTracking’s newest technology platform, called TeleTracking XT™.

Using TeleTracking’s pioneering dispatcher-less logic, TransportTracking powered by XT assigns jobs to the nearest, most appropriate transporter without human intervention because it “knows” the location and capabilities of all transporters. This eliminates ‘dead heading’ back to the Transport Office to get the next request, or calling a dispatcher for an appropriate job. The new browser-based platform helps accelerate communication flow allowing transporters to perform their tasks much more efficiently, accurately and productively.

Transporters perform hundreds of ‘movement-related’ tasks everyday that are absolutely critical to running a hospital’s operations efficiently, from moving patients to medical records to critical diagnostic lab samples. These tasks need to be coordinated and dispatched to the appropriate transporter efficiently and without wasting precious time.

The communication of information is also improved in that transporters are provided with all of the information they need to complete their job via text pagers avoiding the need to jot notes on scraps of paper or the palm of their hand.

Requestors, i.e. the nursing unit, also benefit from the new software design and platform in that they can quickly make a few clicks to make a transport request for a patient and monitor the status, in real-time, without bothersome phone calls. And patients benefit because of the software’s ability to sequence multiple stops. This means a patient can get multiple tests performed in one flow avoiding the need to go back and forth to their room.

TransportTracking powered by TeleTracking XT will be on display at the ASHES/NAHTM conference being held in St Louis, MO from September 30-October 4, 2007. Stop by Booth # 407 to speak with a Barnes-Jewish Hospital Transport Manager and to see all of their capacity and patient flow management products in action.
