Aspen Medical Group Selects Allina Hospitals & Clinics As Strategic Partner

Posted on: Wednesday, 26 September 2007, 15:00 CDT

The Aspen Medical Group has selected Allina Hospitals & Clinics to be its strategic partner, an arrangement that will enhance both organizations' ability to provide exceptional care to patients and improve the health of the communities they serve.

In a vote held last evening, Aspen providers approved a proposal to join Allina as a distinct division within the organization. Aspen will retain its name, a board structure and physician and administrative leadership.

"Aspen selected Allina because its leaders articulated a singularly compelling vision and have demonstrated the ability to achieve that vision," said Arnold London, M.D. Board Chair, Aspen Medical Group. "Joining with Allina will not only help ensure Aspen's long-term viability, but will enable us to invest in initiatives like electronic medical record technology, which will enhance the care we provide. Together, Aspen and Allina will develop community-based services to increase access, patient satisfaction and the quality of care we provide."

Aspen chose Allina after evaluating proposals from several health care systems. After extensive discussions with Allina leaders about the strategic opportunities a partnership could provide, it was felt that a partnership with Allina would improve outcomes, care coordination and integration, increase efficiency and leverage complimentary strengths.

"Affiliating with Allina will only make Aspen a stronger organization," said David Hendrick, M.D. "Not only will we continue to serve our communities with the same providers, staff and clinic locations, but we will have the opportunity to more effectively use technology and other resources for the benefit of our patients."

Aspen Medical Group's locations and provider and service mix complement the current Allina Medical Clinic range of primary and specialty care services. There is little geographic overlap between Aspen's clinic locations and Allina Medical Clinic sites.

"We are pleased that Aspen has chosen to partner with Allina," said Allina President and CEO Dick Pettingill. "By joining in a strategic partnership Aspen and Allina not only build on our long and deep history of working together, we also can build on complimentary strengths existing in each organization. Aspen has a tremendous group of highly skilled clinicians and an outstanding administrative staff and I look forward to working with them."

Aspen Medical Group, a multi-specialty provider, provides a full range of health care services--from pre-natal care to geriatrics--at nine clinic locations, including three Urgent Care locations.

"As a provider, I am excited to be affiliating with an organization that will help me provide the best possible care to my patients," said Mary Ragsdale, Nurse Practitioner. "I've had a good relationship with Allina for a long time, and I look forward to building on that going forward."
