NeoStem Announces Launch of ``Stem for Life'' Foundation to Promote Public Awareness of Adult Stem Cell Promise and Accelerate Groundbreaking Science

Posted on: Thursday, 27 September 2007, 03:00 CDT

NeoStem, Inc. (AMEX:NBS), the first company to specialize in the collection, processing and long term storage of stem cells from healthy adults for personal use in times of critical medical need, today announced the launch of the "Stem for Life" (SFLF) Foundation dedicated to heightening public awareness and knowledge of the benefits and the promise of utilizing adult stem cells to treat serious medical conditions in the burgeoning regenerative medicine industry.

SFLF plans to lead a high-profile campaign directed at protecting the nation's first responders (fire, police, military) by assisting them in having collected and stored their own stem cells for potential recovery following national emergencies and war-related injuries. Additionally, SFLF plans to provide the resources to make adult stem cell collection widely available to chronically ill patients in need of the service but who are unable to pay for it.

"As a leading company in the fast-growing field of regenerative medicine, NeoStem has a responsibility to both expand public awareness for the industry as a whole and to help deliver the promise of adult stem cells to those individuals that protect our nation," said Robin Smith, M.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NeoStem. "The Foundation, through our proprietary program, will help to ensure that future first responders, whether firefighters, soldiers or police have access to their own adult stem cells to take advantage of the latest life saving therapies as they become available should immediate or future medical attention become necessary," says Arlene Graime, Director of Government Affairs and Vice President of the "Stem for Life" (SFLF) Foundation.

NeoStem's proprietary technology positions the company at the forefront of a bold new shift in the medical industry where the patient's own body would provide the materials, such as adult stem cells, necessary to formulate therapies that have historically been provided by pharmaceutical companies in the form of synthetic, chemically engineered drugs. Although adult stem cell therapies are generally not standard of care, the Company believes medicine is on the threshold of a plethora of such new therapies.

The purpose of educating the public about the cost-effectiveness and promise of therapeutic benefits of Adult Stem Cells is to ultimately markedly increase participation and most importantly, help save lives and unnecessary medical procedures. Commensurate with public education will be SFLF's support of promising studies with a view to advancing adult stem cell science.

The collection of adult stem cells is about as invasive as giving blood and can be done in less than three hours in a doctor's office. The cells are then processed and stored at a NeoStem state of the art facility.

There are currently more than 700 adult stem cell clinical trials listed by the National Institutes of Health. These include studies in a myriad of life-threatening diseases including several types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, lupus as well as regenerative wound remedies and transplant therapies.

NeoStem is pleased to help bring this unique and unprecedented philanthropic and educational initiative forward to share its technology and expertise in those areas where they are needed most.

About NeoStem, Inc.

NeoStem is a biotechnology services company enhancing the delivery of adult stem cell therapeutics to health-conscious consumers. The Company is developing a nationwide network of adult stem cell collection centers, enabling people to donate and store their own stem cells with NeoStem for personal use years or decades later in times of critical medical need.

The proprietary NeoStem technologies empower health-conscious consumers to help protect their future health by undergoing treatment with their own stem-cells - providing an accessible supply of healthy, genetically matched stem cells for use in the eventuality of illness.

Currently underway are hundreds of stem cell-based research programs and clinical trials investigating the use of these non-controversial adult stem cells, such as those collected from donors under NeoStem's methods. As the nation's population ages and encounters serious age-related and congenital health issues, NeoStem has positioned itself as a leader in the national trend toward protecting one's future health.

The Company's business plan is a service model that is completely scalable, thus minimizing risk levels ordinarily related to most long-term biopharmaceutical research and development. Under its strategic business plan, NeoStem has begun opening a nationwide network of adult stem cell collection facilities. Its stem cell collection systems will be located in existing physician offices and medical facilities, where the procedures and care can be administered by trusted personal doctors and medical professionals.
