SAN DIEGO, Sept. 27, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- In recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to the fields of health care management and complementary health, American Specialty Health (ASH) chairman, president, and CEO George DeVries has been named a finalist in the inaugural Health Care Champions awards. The San Diego Business Journal presents these awards to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on the quality of health care in San Diego County.
DeVries and 93 other finalists were nominated by an independent panel of judges in nine different categories. The judges recognized DeVries as a leader in the Health Care Management category, which honors men and women who manage the business of health care. In this category, emphasis is placed on the candidates' demonstrated support of the values of leadership, customer focus, valuing of employees, managing innovation, and focusing on results.
"The ability to deliver quality health care has been challenged during this decade," said John Edelston, president of HealthPro Associates, Inc. and a Health Care Champion judge. "It is important that the San Diego Business Journal acknowledges the individuals and organizations who, despite many challenges in this industry, demonstrate extraordinary leadership and commitment to the needs of their colleagues and their communities."
George DeVries leads one of the nation's premier personal health improvement and complementary health care companies, American Specialty Health Inc. DeVries was also nominated by President Clinton to serve as a commissioner on the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Health Care. Recently, ASH was named one of San Diego's Best Places to Work by both San Diego Business Journal and San Diego Magazine.
"To be named a finalist for a Health Care Champion award is a true honor," said DeVries. "I appreciate this acknowledgment."
Other Health Care Champion categories included Health Care Innovation & Research, Community Outreach, Physician, Nurse, Health Care Staff, Volunteer, Health Care Education, and First Responder.
