McLaren Health Care Adds POH Medical Center to System

Posted on: Thursday, 27 September 2007, 12:00 CDT

PONTIAC, Mich., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its status as one of the largest and the fastest growing health care system in Michigan, McLaren Health Care is pleased to announce the addition of POH Medical Center to its network of comprehensive regional medical centers.

POH, a 338-bed hospital located in downtown Pontiac, becomes the newest subsidiary of McLaren Health Care. McLaren acquired Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center last year, and owns six other hospitals in Flint, Lansing, Bay City and Lapeer.

"I'm very pleased to announce the addition of POH Medical Center to our system," said Philip Incarnati, President and CEO of McLaren Health Care. "McLaren Health Care and POH share a similar vision for delivering high- quality care at the best value possible.

"McLaren and POH also recognize a similar mandate to serve our communities with some of the largest medical training programs in the state," Incarnati said. "McLaren boasts more than 500 total allopathic and osteopathic residency positions with Michigan State University; and POH is recognized as having one of the largest osteopathic training programs in the nation.

"As POH is integrated into McLaren's system, these similarities will be leveraged to create the best value for our patients and the communities that we serve," Incarnati said.

"We determined two years ago that in order to grow our operation for the future we needed to seek out a strong partner," said Patrick E. Lamberti, President and CEO of POH Medical Center. "We talked to many health care systems interested in partnering with us, but the medical staff and board of trustees decided unanimously that McLaren was far and away the best partner of choice.

"We firmly believe that integrating POH Medical Center with McLaren's system is the right thing to do for the hospital, its employees, our physicians and the community. We're convinced that POH Medical Center and the city of Pontiac will benefit from this relationship now and well into the future," Lamberti said.

McLaren Health Care hospitals, health plan and home health agencies regularly earn recognition for excellence in patient and customer care from national organizations including The Joint Commission, National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Michigan Association of Health Plans, Plans, Solucient(R), HealthGrades(R), Thomson Healthcare and J.D. Power & Associates.
