My Mandarin Community Hospice Auxiliary Previews Its Cookbook on Saturday

The Community Hospice of Northeast Florida Auxiliary premieres its cookbook, A Tasteful Collection of Celebrity Chefs and More, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Publix supermarket at 10500 San Jose Blvd. And celebrity chef Richard Nunn will demonstrate one of his recipes from the cookbook, which can be purchased for $20.
The Auxiliary of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida was founded in 1991 to support patient care activities. The auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Hadlow Center for Caring at Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road.
RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME
The North Florida-South Georgia Restless Legs Syndrome Awareness, Support and Educational Group holds information sessions Saturday and again on Sunday at the Edgewater at Sunbeam condominium clubhouse at 4400 Edgewater Crossing Drive.
From 1:15 to 3 p.m. both days, an overview on RLS, research on causes, various treatments and its relationship to other disorders will be presented. Then from 3:30 to 5 p.m. both days, a presentation and discussion will be held on alternative treatments for RLS.
The discussion will be led by Ed Murfin, volunteer leader of the North Florida-South Georgia RLS Awareness Educational Support Group.
SCHOOLS CHIEF TO SPEAK
Duval County School Superintendent Joseph Wise speaks at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Jewish Community Alliance J Institute’s “Conversations with …” program at 8505 San Jose Blvd. Wise and Jane Vance, a district adviser, will discuss “Opportunities in Education, Educators of Change.” The program is free for JCA members and $5 for non-members. Reservations are required as soon as possible by calling 730-2100, ext. 321.
DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM
Baptist Medical Center South offers a new Outpatient Diabetes Education Program by appointment at the hospital facility at 14550 Old St. Augustine Road.
Certified diabetes educators can help people with diabetes learn how to control the disease and improve overall health. Group sessions will include education on blood glucose monitoring, diabetes medications, meal planning, physical activity, stress management and preventing complications.
