GRASS VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- KickStart Fitness, a Northern California company that specializes in children's fitness equipment and youth- oriented fitness facilities, was recently chosen to provide fitness equipment, programming, and training for this year's winner of the California Governor's Fitness Challenge.
Every year, the Governor's Challenge awards a complete fitness and activity room to a California school. The Challenge is to be active 30-60 minutes a day at least 3 days a week for 4 weeks. This year's winner, Marvin Elementary School, in Los Angeles, was chosen from a pool of regional finalists who had the highest percentage of students completing the Challenge.
KickStart was selected to provide aerobic and strength machines, a climbing wall, various fitness accessories, as well as programming and training for Marvin's fitness room. Governor Schwarzenegger was on hand September 18th for a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. A week later, KickStart trainers were back at the school conducting a two-day training session for teachers.
"As a young company, we're thrilled to be part of the Challenge. We're seeing a definite trend toward these types of facilities in elementary and middle schools, as educators jump into the fight against childhood obesity, and the Challenge is a great way of spreading the word," says Phyllis Rogers, Director of Sales and Marketing.
KickStart provides equipment, room planning, and programming for all types of organizations, including commercial fitness clubs, hotels and resorts, and hospitals. But schools are at the heart of the KickStart mission. Continued Rogers, "We're former teachers ourselves, and schools have always been a primary focus for us. We know how hard it can be for a single teacher to get a classroom full of kids moving, but nowadays it's more important than ever to teach children good fitness habits. That's why we focus on variety, mixing new interactive electronic features with more traditional fitness machines and activities."
