The FDA Approves Another Flu Vaccine
October 1, 2007
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Afluria, an additional seasonal influenza vaccine for people ages 18 and older.
The FDA said Afluria — intended to protect adults from influenza type A and type B flu viruses — brings the number of seasonal influenza manufacturers licensed in the U.S. market to six. They are expected to supply a record 132 million doses of influenza vaccine for the 2007-08 influenza season.
Afluria contains inactivated influenza viruses grown in chicken eggs, the FDA said. People allergic to eggs shouldn’t receive Afluria.
