Great Way to Achieve Goal
By STEVEN SWANSON
IT’S becoming more and more popular, and it’s no longer only for the rich and famous. Personal training is a great way to help you succeed with your gym work. Why have a personal trainer?
They assess your individual abilities and needs;
They will set realistic goals; They will personalise your workouts so that they help you achieve your goals;
They will ensure you are doing exercises correctly and provide feedback on how to adjust your posture, motion and exertion to get maximum results and prevent injury;
They will instantly adapt an exercise if it is proving to be too advanced for you to do correctly. They will also make the exercise more difficult if it looks too easy;
Your workouts will be fresh and fun, introducing you to using different equipment to work the same muscle groups. You won’t get stuck in a rut.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PERSONAL
TRAINER:
You need to be comfortable with the trainer and understand his or her directions. The main thing to understand is that this will be a one-on-one relationship therefore I would advise asking questions before you start:
What are the trainer’s professional credentials? Is he or she certified? Who by?
There is a national register of fitness professionals in the UK. Are they on it?
Has the trainer worked with other clients with your same starting fitness level and age? If you are training for a specific sport goal, such as walking a marathon, has the trainer worked with others who have that goal?
Does the trainer keep up with the latest ideas, research, and equipment?
Will they do before-and-after tests to show results?
Is a trial session available for free, or a low fee?
Most trainers will offer a trial workout. This is important as he/ she will be the one you are paying to help you every step of the way. Using the free trial will see if you can work as a team. Did you enjoy the session? Were you motivated? Did the trainer listen to you, encourage you and provide feedback? Did the trainer understand your goals and gear the workout in that direction? Most importantly, will you feel comfortable working out with them? If you have not tried a personal trainer I can honestly say that if you pick the right one, you will look forward to every single visit to the gym. If you have any questions, why not e-mail me at gosforth@greens- fitness.com I will more than happy to help you on your way to a new you. Next week, dumbbells!
