Survivors ‘Heartier’

PATIENTS who survive coronary disease develop stronger hearts which are more effective at fighting any further damage, a study suggests.

The protection mechanism was identified in mice which developed problems after being fed a high-fat “western diet” by Bristol University researchers.

The findings could improve treatments for the disease which kills 70,000 people in the UK annually.
