St. Stephen’s Marking East End Relationships
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave., is having a celebration tomorrow called “Hands Across Richmond.” The event includes a fellowship hour at 10:15 a.m., a worship service at 11:15 and a picnic after the service.
Activities are a celebration of the church’s relationships with individuals, schools, ministries and organizations working in Richmond’s East End. St. Stephen’s works closely with Fairfield Elementary School and the Peter Paul Development Center, providing tutors, lunch buddies, room-parent assistance and other kinds of support.
Tomorrow’s celebration will be an opportunity to get together with people from Fairfield and Peter Paul, as well as other groups and agencies working to support East End residents.
Those agencies and organizations include Cross Over Ministry health clinics, Child Savers and Freedom House.
The worship service will include combined choirs from St. Stephen’s, Fairfield, Peter Paul and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Participants will make colorful banners during the fellowship hour.
St. Stephen’s also is continuing its focus on Christian-Muslim relationships with a visit from the Rt. Rev. Mano Rumalshah, an Anglican bishop in Peshewar, Pakistan. His presentations will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 7 p.m. Thursday and 10:10 a.m. Oct. 7.
Recent guests at St. Stephen’s have included David Ford and Catriona Lang of Cambridge University’s Interfaith Programme, and Paul-Gordon Chandler, an Episcopal priest and missionary living and working in Cairo, Egypt.
Their remarks can be heard by downloading MP3 files from St. Stephen’s Web site, www.saintstephensrichmond.net.
Glen Allen church opening at theater
Crossings Church in Glen Allen will celebrate its grand opening Oct. 14 at Regal Virginia Center 20.
The church will give away 48 movie tickets during each of its first four Sunday services at 10091 Jeb Stuart Parkway near Virginia Center Commons mall.
“We can’t wait to give away these movie tickets,” said Crossings’ pastor, Josh Karrer. “When you read about Jesus, you realize he rarely hung out in the temple to preach and teach. Instead, he spent a lot of time hanging out where people lived. That’s why we’re so excited about meeting in our community theater.”
The 10 a.m. Sunday services are geared to the entire family. There will be free bagels and hot coffee for those who arrive early.
